Use of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma in the Treatment of Chronic Anal Fissure: A Case Series

Introduction. A chronic anal fissure is one of the most frequent and disabling proctologic pathologies. Its therapeutic management is complicated in patients with recurrence or high risk of anal incontinence.
Objective. This study aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of autologous platelet-rich plasma infiltration in the treatment of chronic anal fissure.
Material and methods. A descriptive retrospective observational study was carried out in 16 patients treated at our center for chronic anal fissure with autologous platelet-rich plasma. Result. The evolution was satisfactory in all the patients, since in 94% of them the proctalgia had diminished or disappeared during the first 48 hours. One month after treatment, 89% of patients had healed the fissure. Limitations: This study was limited by its small sample size. In addition, long-term follow-up of the patients was not reported.
Conclusions. The use of autologous platelet-rich plasma is an alternative in the medical treatment of anal fissure with good results, highlighting the resolution of proctalgia in the first 48 hours.
