Unusual Intestinal Event

Abstract

A 49-year-old male patient attended the emergency department for presenting hypogastric pain of intensity 8/10. On physical examination, he was lucid and afebrile, without signs of dehydration, with a distended abdomen, without pain on superficial or deep palpation, and without signs of peritoneal irritation. A biochemical analysis was requested, with the following findings: leukocytes 10990, hemoglobin 14.7 g/dL, hematocrit 43%, MCV 87.6 fL, MCH 34.2 pg, MCHC 34.2 g/dL, platelets 283000, absolute neutrophils 9034, absolute lymphocytes 1220, amylase 35 IU/L, lipase 31 IU/L, total bilirubin 0. 6 mg/dL, direct bilirubin 0.2 mg/dL, alkaline phosphatase 47 IU/L, GOT 16 IU/L, GPT 11 IU/L, creatinine 0.83 mg/dL, sodium 140 mEq/L, potassium 4.4 mEq/L, chlorine 103 mEq/L, glucose 105 mg/dL, urine sediment normal.
