Abstract

Dysphagia lusoria is a rare pathology characterized by dysphagia secondary to extrinsic compression of the esophagus by an aberrant artery of the aortic arch. This is a vascular embryologic abnormality that generally does not cause symptoms, although it can cause dysphagia due to the development of arteriosclerosis and decreased esophageal compliance, aneurysms, or motor disorders. Our report describes a case of a man with intermittent esophageal dysphagia, extrinsic esophageal compression by the aberrant right subclavian artery and hypercontractile esophagus.
